Taylor Made is a dance and theatre training facility for students who want to learn the craft of dance, theatre, voice and film, weather recreational or career minded, you have a home at TMDT. We believe the most important ingredients in shaping a young performer are training, guidance and support. Their are no guarantees in life. No amount of roles, competition prizes or networking can guarantee a future career. However, here at Taylor Made, we believe training can give students the best opportunities in their future and lead to success and longevity in whatever they choose to do. Our program is ”tailored” to help the individual student achieve their goals no matter what age or level. This ethos is the inspiration for our name and the question: Are you Taylor Made?
TMDT believes that if we create a yearning now for training and education in their chosen art form, it will last a lifetime!
So the question stands…… Are you Taylor Made?
My name is Angela Morando -Taylor. I am a dance and performance educator with over 30 years under my belt in performing arts 7education and performance! For the last 20 years I have been the dance director and performance coordinator for multiple high schools in south Florida, choreographed professional theatre and opened TMDT in south Florida. TMDT alumni can be seen on Broadway, national tours, cruise ships, Disney, TV & Film. I believe in a solid education not only in the arts but academically as well. Knowledge is power!
I started my journey 36 years ago in Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania. I was 7 at the time and wanted to be like my older cousin, so I started taking class at Linda Dies Dance Unlimited In Warren, PA. Little did my parents know that it would be the start of my life’s work.
My path has been a tricky one, Diagnosed at 16 with fibromyalgia, I had to learn to dance with a lot of pain, fatigue and frustration. Five years later while at Coker College, on scholarship, I would have two broken feet, collapsed arches and a broken heart. It was at this point I was told I would never dance again. This was all due to poor flooring and a weakened body. Seems tragic but this is how my story starts and where my ethos about education in the arts began. After many months of PT, I made it 11 years before I retired. I was smart enough at the time to know that my feet would never withstand the demand a concert dancer requires, so I decided to go into professional theatre. This is what makes my background a little different, I am educated in dance as well as theatre.
I am sharing my story with you because it helps support how I have come to this point, why I have become such an advocate for proper flooring, self care and true teaching, not demonstrating! I have learned the in’s and out’s of crushing disappointments, perseverance and empathy through my journey and use it every day in my teachings. I would not be the person or teacher I am today with out it.
I believe every student that I come in contact with deserves the best of me, whether they want to go on to being professional or just love the arts and want to learn the craft for their high school career. They are all amazing!
My mission is simple. I do not believe in back rows or a center spot on stage. I believe in my students, all my students, each one of them has a talent that is uniquely theirs. As educators, it is our job to help them realize that talent, give them the discipline to succeed, and encourage the spirit to love what they do.
